What do you wish that everybody knew?
Basic--but effective--first aid can be learned in an hour. Very very basic life-saving first aid is this: Start by calling 911 (or equivalent). Unconscious? Check neck for pulse (practice on yourself now!) No pulse? Keep them from brain damage by pressing down hard on their chest to the tune of Stayin' Alive (100-120 bpm). Chest should move 2 inches/5 cm. Recheck pulse every two minutes. Bleeding a lot? Apply direct pressure. Press firmly. Choking? Apply a lot of sudden force just below their ribcage, in and up: You want to compress the lungs. You can do this to YOURSELF with the corner of a table or high-back chair! Physical or emotional trauma can cause shock: If someone seems affected (clammy, grey, mental alteration), have the person lay down, elevate their legs, give them a blanket if cold, and reassure them.
